WHAT IS POD-CEAL

Pod-Ceal is a unique polymer formulation extracted from natural plant materials.

Pod-Ceal allows moisture movement from within the pods and reduces the intrusion of extraneous moisture back into the pod due to rain or dew. This results in a gentle uniform ripening without additional stress to the seam of the pod.

Canola plants can have mature and immature pods at the same time. The mature pods will be ready for harvesting whilst the immature pods are still developing. This phenomenon generally results in lower seed and oil yields.

Canola plants gain almost the entire seed yield during the final four weeks of pod development. Therefore, it is important to allow the crop to grow and develop to its maximum capability i.e. the complete maturation of all pods. Pod shattering can affect the yields and influence the time of harvest.

Pod-Ceal, applied at the correct growth stage, allows the canola crop to grow to its full maturity, reducing the problems of pod shattering and improving pod filling.

Key benefits of using Pod-Ceal include:

  • Minimization of shatter and cutter bar losses
  • Minimization of loss of seed quality
  • Allows crop to reach its full yield potential
  • Allows full oil development
  • Achieves greater flexibility in harvesting
  • Minimization of green seed
  • Allows for direct harvesting
  • Standing canola allows you to get back to a paddock quicker to harvest in moist conditions

Why Is There Value?

  • Pod-Ceal plus application costs growers about the same as windrowing.
  • Pod-Ceal is new technology which makes direct harvesting a safer and more effective management tool for canola growers in Australia.
  • Pod Ceal can help reduce shattering on paddocks that will be windrowed late if growers decide against direct harvesting or plan on late windrowing.
  • Pod Ceal will reduce the risk of shatter from its initial application over a period of weeks as the natural polymer slowly degrades.
  • Pod-Ceal is rainfast in one hour after application.
  • Current canola pricing, higher oil premiums, and larger returns make harvest management a much higher priority.
